In order to match backpackers’ budget, all our vans are older vans with high kilometres. Most of them are retired tradie vans. Being old vans, a breakdown could happen at any time. It would be difficult to know in advance when an alternator, a starter motor, a steering pump and so on would stop working.
So, if you can’t afford the risk of potential breakdowns, you should probably reconsider your way of travelling. Rental could be an option, making bus trips, using your thumb for hitchhiking, and so on. There are many ways of discovering New Zealand after all.
All our vans are inspected by our mechanics (short test drive in Hunua Gorge + hoist inspection). Cambelts get inspected, cooling system pressure tested, alternator tested, T-Kay test done, and more.
But considering that they are old vans, please understand that we can’t replace each part and bolt which isn’t new just in case of a hypothetical future breakdown.
We advise you to start your trip with a nice loop in gorgeous Northland. Like this, if you are experiencing any inconvenience you can always visit us on your way down so we can assist you. We will offer you mechanical assistance within 1 month from the date of van collection or within 1,000 km.
We also guarantee the Engine and Gearbox for 3 months or 3,000 km.
